Some of the present fellowship at Calvary
This ministry was greatly blessed. My fellow Elders were two of the most Godly, gentle and visionary men I have known. They had built a foundation upon which we could build together. The Church fellowship grew and was full of many Nationalities.
It was the most enjoyable ministry I had ever experienced and such a loving, honest family of Christians of all ages and Nationalities. We had strong links with and helped the founding of a Reformed witness amongst the Tamils in North Sri Lanka And trained
their Pastor(s) in ministry setting them aside for the work. My fellow Elders visited them for teaching missions and support. We also had our own Chinese speaking group who were very active in the schools of learning in Brighton. In all during the time we
had around 50 different ethnic groups through the fellowship.
The secret, if you can call it that, of our growth was that at the heart of our Church life was a simple, lively, relevant expository ministry from the pulpit. Our worship was
reverent and meaningful and we in the eldership believed passionately that the applied Word of God could and did change lives. During this time we saw a lot of folks old and young turn to Christ and many converted during the expositions.
that time I was approached by the Hampden Du Bose Academy in Zellwood Florida to become their Director of Discipleship training. Calvary sent me to investigate the call and go on their behalf sent by the Church and establishing a solid link. May and
I spent some time in Florida investigating and arranging Radio broadcasts then came back to Brighton happy to accept the call and be sent by Brighton.
Phil one of the Elders was to leave his teaching job and take the fulltime role, thus
releasing me. Then things changed. Les the older Elder was suddenly taken into heaven and Phil and I had to lead a Church in shock and mourning together with the impending change. So Phil was left, having given up his job. Then...we couldn't get a visa
and were left high and dry!..oh what fun it is serving the Lord! However we felt that Phil and the Lord were more than able to manage so May and I moved back to Scotland to enable Phil to take the Church forward (he is still there to this day..
one of God's diamonds!)...so starts another phase.
